Counselling services

Secure Online Counselling:

I use a secure Zoom Professional account for video sessions, as well as a telephone call or text option. Online counselling can provide flexibility and options for people to access counselling services more easily.

Individual Counselling:

I take an experienced and respectful, client-centered approach to Individual Counselling.
Individual Counselling may take a blend of approaches related to particular client needs, such as: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy; Psycho-dynamic Therapy; Grief and Loss; Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy; Dialectical Behavioral Therapy; Solutions-Focused Therapy; Trauma-informed approaches; and more. Counselling can be a flexible process in working towards goals you have set, and at other times it can be a check-in or self-care tool to work with what is happening in that particular moment or week.

Child and Youth Counselling:

Children and youth want to be seen, heard, and understood. I work from a non-judgmental child and youth-led stance to create trust and rapport. This help to build the respectful relationship essential to therapeutic work. I connect with children and youth on their terms, valuing their wisdom and experience, while adding therapeutic insights to whatever they may be struggling with. I use child and youth-informed, evidence-based psychoeducational, play therapeutic, and cognitive-behavioral therapies, among others.

Family and Parent Counselling:

Family therapy offers families the opportunity to expand and grow, focusing on strengths, values, and challenges. Family therapy involves looking at family roles, dynamics, parenting approaches and strategies, communication patterns, boundaries, and ways in which the family members relate to each other and themselves. I take a strengths-based, non-judgmental approach to parenting and family counselling, working with blended families, parenting after separation, foster families, step-parenting, and step-coupling.

LGBTQIA2+ Affirming Counselling:

I provide respectful and informed counselling for LGBTQIA2+ communities creating a safe, accepting, and non-judgmental environment. It is important to respect and to be able to explore sexuality, identity, genders and gender orientation from an affirmative perspective. and I offer counselling for LGBTQIA2+ families, parents, queer advocacy and support, children, youth and adults.

Marital/Relationship Counselling:

I am experienced and trained in the Gottman Method Couples Therapy and take a respectful, collaborative approach. I include a blend of emotionally-focused, response-based counselling approaches, tailored to the particular needs of the relationship. I believe that it is important to create an environment of respect, and compassion, as well as to address the vulnerabilities that may come with accessing marital/relationship therapy. We respectfully work through the challenges, as well as focus on the resilience and strengths of the partnership. We work as a team from an informed-consent approach to create the safety needed to grow and expand, becoming more attuned to each other as a couple.
